Holding
the Mouse
Some points for you to watch and encourage when your child is doing
these activities:
- Have a clean mouse-mat, with a smooth dust-free surface
- Make sure that your mouse is working properly. Mouses can get
clogged with dust. Check that they are clean by turning them upside-down,
releasing the ball from its place (careful you don’t lose
it!) and removing any fluff and dust
- Normal computer mouses are rather large for little hands. Get
your child to spread their hands wide and press down a little to
secure the mouse against the mat. Consider getting a smaller mouse
just for them
- Children tend to rotate the mouse – encourage them to keep
it straight
- Children need to get the idea that moving the mouse forward on
the mouse mat translates into an upward movement on the screen.
